Tuscarawas County will be busy at the state track meets

Three Indian Valley boys relay teams won regional titles as the Braves finished second at the Division II regional meet at Muskingum College. All three relay teams set school records in the process. Joining the relay teams (or in addition to qualifying on the relay teams), the Braves had state qualifiers in individual events in Carsen Hostetler, Owen Fockler, Josiah Klaserner and Kolton Smith.

The state track meets are this week in Columbus, and Tuscarawas County will be well represented in all three divisions.

Tuscarawas County regional champions include Tuscarawas Central Catholic’s Elena Price in the 800, an incredible three relay teams for the Indian Valley boys, the Tusky Valley girls 4 by 400 relay team, the Tusky Valley boys 4 by 100, Tusky Valley’s Abe McElwee in the 400, and the Newcomerstown girls 4 by 100 relay team.

The state track meet is Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Ohio State University.

Division I (Pickerington)

In Division I For New Philadelphia, Marcus Adelman, the school record holder in the 3200, qualified for the state meet in that event.

For Dover, Sydney Stevenson, who holds multiple school records, qualified for the state meet in the 800. Another school record holder Daylen Clark qualified for the state meet in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Division II (Muskingum)

In Division II, Indian Valley’s boys finished runner up sending a bunch of athletes to the state meet, including an incredible three regional champion relay teams – the 4 by 100, 4 by 200 and 4 by 400. Other Indian Valley state qualifiers are Carsen Hostetler in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Owen Fockler in the 200, Kolton Smith in the 400, Josiah Klaserner in the pole vault and on the girls side Macey Anderson in the shot put.

Tusky Valley’s girls will compete in five events at the state meet. They won the regional title in the 4 by 400 and qualified a total of four relay teams. Also competing at the state meet for Tusky Valley, Savannah Ashton will race in the 200 at the state meet.

Tusky Valley’s boys won the regional championship in the 4 by 100 and qualified for states in the 4 by 400. Abe McElwee is headed to states as the regional champ in the 400.

Division III (Heath)

In Division III, Tuscarawas Central’s Elena Price is the regional champ in the 800 and is going to the state meet. Teammate Julia Sciarretti qualified in the 300 hurdles.

Newcomerstown has a regional champion in the 4 by 100 girls relay team. Also for Newcomerstown, Cameron Kuder in the 200 is going to the state meet.

Strasburg has three state qualifiers, led by Kylie McKenzie in the 1600 and 3200. Riley Thomas is moving on in the long jump. For the Strasburg boys, Gage Moore qualified for states in the shot put.

Garaway is sending Abby Steiner in the girls pole vault and Andrew Wicker in the boys 100 meter dash.
