Tuscora Park Ferris Wheel ready to start turning again
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 18, 2024) – A fixture at Tuscora Park could be back in service this weekend.
RTY President Greg Rees gave an update on the Ferris wheel earlier this week, saying they needed to train a couple more operators on the new control system before it started spinning again.
“It had a failure on the controller, which is essentially a computer. You gotta remember many of the parts on the Ferris Wheel are anywhere from a hundred years old to the controller was 20 years old.”
Workers from Gradall and Dover Tank and Plate helped renovate the nearly century-old ride that’s now handicap-accessible and replaced an axle that cracked about a month after its rededication.
“We’re just so grateful to have companies like that in the area that want to see Tuscora Park last another hundred years.”
Donations to support RTY’s ongoing efforts to enhance the park can be mailed to the park office at 161 Tuscora Avenue NW in New Philadelphia. Rees says they plan to add three new children’s rides where the batting cages were taken down once they have the funding to install them.
