Tuscora Park opening weekend ceremonies rescheduled for this Sunday
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 29, 2024) – RTY officials will try again to host some of the festivities that were intended for the rides’ opening weekend at Tuscora Park.
Rain on Sunday forced officials to postpone the unveiling of the Tuscora Park historical marker.
The ceremony was in part to thank the Rotarian who spearheaded the project, Sam Hitchcock, but he’s been hospitalized since Thursday for injuries sustained in a fall.
“Aside from the weather cloud, the cloud that did kind of hang over us all weekend was the injury Sam Hitchcock suffered,” said RTY board member Carey Gardner.
Gardner says last Sunday was also supposed to include the dedication for the park’s kiddie Ferris wheel, which still made its debut Friday and was in operation through the weekend.
“It was busy and gave hundreds of kids rides,” said Gardner. “I think it was a big hit.”
He says those ceremonies will now take place this Sunday starting at 6:30 p.m. with the marker unveiling.
The Ferris wheel dedication will then take place at 6:45 p.m.
“Our donor family will be there to be recognized and we’ll take care of those two pieces of business,” Gardner said.
Gardner also credited the staff members who stepped up in the absence of Hitchcock, as he is again producer of the Summer Showcase concerts that started at the park over the weekend.
