Tusky man killed in motorcycle crash with deer

| November 9, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 9, 2023) – The State Highway Patrol says a Tusky man was killed when his motorcycle struck a deer in Goshen Township Wednesday evening.

The victim was 20-year-old Isaac Stokey.

New Philadelphia post Sgt. Brian Hawkins say Stokey was eastbound on U.S. 250 just past the New Towne Mall area at about 6:10 pm when the deer entered the roadway, and he was thrown from the motorcycle.

Hawkins says Stokey was wearing a helmet and speed does not appear to have been a contributing factor.

“There was nothing that (Stokey) could do,” said Hawkins. “Looks like, based off the scene, he did try to brake to avoid hitting the deer, but he wasn’t able get stopped.”

Stokey was taken to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Hawkins says they have the crash still listed as under investigation as a formality.

“We always try to do a further investigation between the coroner’s report, any kind of toxicology reports, or anything like that,” said Hawkins. “We don’t suspect anything at this time.”
