Resurfacing and rebuilding the base will cost up to about $312,000; work expected to start in June and finish before fall sports.

ZOARVILLE (WTUZ) (May 13, 2026) — The Tusky Valley Local Schools Board of Education has approved plans to replace the running track at the district’s football stadium, moving forward with a summer project aimed at improving long-term durability.

The board voted unanimously Monday to hire Vasco Sports Contractors to remove and resurface the existing track, with a project budget of up to about $312,000.

Superintendent Derek Varansky said the current track has been in place for many years and has undergone repeated sealing, top coating and painting. This summer’s work will remove the existing surface and install a new foundation and base, a step officials said is necessary to ensure the track holds up over time.

District leaders also explored expanding the track from six lanes to eight, but determined it wasn’t feasible because doing so would require moving the home stands.

Work is expected to begin in June. After installation, the track will need a settling period of several months, with completion hoped for before fall sports get underway.

Officials said the money for the project has already been set aside in the district’s capital projects fund.
