Tusky Valley secures grant to return before & after school programs
ZOARVILLE (WJER) (Aug. 17, 2023) – The Tusky Valley School District’s before- and after-school programs will be back after the Ohio Department of Education awarded the district an $850,000 21ST Century Grant to keep them going for five years.
Superintendent Derek Varansky says it was a competitive grant process for federal dollars. Tusky Valley had been receiving the grant for 10 years but didn’t get it last year.
The grant will cover before and after school academic tutoring, plus programs including theater, computer science, and engineering.
Varansky previously oversaw the grant for seven years. He’s glad it’s back and says it’s a great program for kids whose parents work late.
The $850,000 grant is split up over five years. The district will get $200,000 this year.
