Tusky Valley Senior Center to open in former high school
ZOARVILLE (WJER) (Dec. 10, 2024) – Tusky Valley’s 50-north population will soon have a place of its own to grab lunch, socialize, and play games.
A group of area residents is working with the Tuscarawas County Senior Center to open a new satellite location at the former high school in early February. Executive Director Jamie Smith sees a lot of potential for fitness opportunities and even an indoor walking track inside the gym.
“We’re hoping that senior center will really model its programming and services after our other satellites. They’ll be open Tuesday through Fridays, typically 8 am to 1 pm or maybe 9 am to 2 pm depending on what the crowd is and what the crowd likes.”
This will be the sixth satellite location for the center, which expanded into Strasburg the summer before last.
“We do have a good clientele from those areas but it’s always nice to have a center within our communities’ neighborhoods because then they feel a belonging and they know people that are coming from high school or from elementary school. It’s fun to have that connection, so we’re really excited to have this center popping up in Tusky Valley.”
Smith says the goal is to open the Tusky Valley Senior Center on February 4th and hold an open house that Friday. The organization is currently seeking a part-time site director to oversee the location.
