Two injured after jumping from porch roof to escape Dundee house fire

| February 2, 2026

DUNDEE (WJER) (Feb. 2, 2026) — Two people suffered potentially life-threatening injuries early Monday morning after jumping from a porch roof to escape a house fire in Dundee, according to Wayne Township firefighters.

Fire Chief Josh Yoder said the victims were forced to jump approximately 10 feet from the porch roof to the ground to get away from the flames. He said they may have suffered smoke inhalation and other injuries, and one of the victims is believed to have hand burns. Their current conditions are unknown.

Firefighters were dispatched at 4:23 a.m. to a two-story home in the 6700 block of State Route 93, just south of the town square. Crews arrived to find the house fully involved, with flames blowing out of the front of the structure and through the roof. The porch roof had already collapsed by the time responders arrived.

Firefighters immediately began caring for the two victims at the scene. They were first taken to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital and later flown to another hospital in northern Ohio for further treatment.

The house was declared a total loss. Yoder said the fire did not spread to two nearby homes, though one neighboring house sustained some heat damage to its siding.

Crews remained on scene for about six and a half hours. Firefighters paused their work to allow the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate. The cause for now is listed as undetermined.
