| November 17, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 17, 2025)  – The U.S. Marshals Service was in New Philadelphia Friday to arrest an Akron man.

Spokeswoman Anne Murphy says the suspect was 18-year-old Derquan Edwards. He was wanted by Akron police on a warrant for theft of a firearm.

Edwards was arrested without incident in the 300 block of Ray Avenue Northeast after marshals learned he had been staying there.

New Philadelphia Police Chief Tessa Pohovey says her department had school resource officers positioned at the East and Central Elementary buildings as this was going on out of an abundance of caution.

Murphy was unsure what Edwards’ connection is to the New Philadelphia area is. He was transported and booked into the Summit County Jail.
