Valentine’s Day powers Ohio’s holiday spending
COLUMBUS, Oh. – Ohioans looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day surprise won’t have to look far. New labor market data from Ohio Job and Family Services shows the state is packed with options for sweethearts of all kinds. Ohio boasts 130 candy and chocolate shops, 463 florists, 568 gift shops, and 577 jewelry stores—offering everything from handmade treats to sparkling gems.
The state reports more than 7,800 dine‑in restaurants ready to host a night out across Ohio.
All of these Valentine’s-related businesses add up to a significant economic boost. Together, florists and jewelry retailers alone support over 12,600 jobs.
This year, analysts note a shifting trend: While gift spending remains strong, more Ohio couples are choosing budget‑friendly fast‑food options over pricier restaurants as they navigate tightening finances.
