Weekly food market kicking off 16th season at fairgrounds

| June 5, 2024

DOVER (WJER) (June 5, 2024) – It’s opening day for the Tuscarawas Valley Farmers Market.

Dozens of local food producers will be at the county fairgrounds from 3 to 7 pm for the first installment of the market’s 16th season. Market Manager Mark McKenzie and Vendor Liason Whitney Manson stopped by WJER recently to promote the event, which will take place under the grandstands with no live music or cooking demonstration because of the rain in the forecast.

Participants returning for the new season include 3Peas MarketGarden, Bosler’s Honey, Yoder’s Family Produce, Holly HoMade, and Michael Confections. Manson says they’re also welcoming several additions.

“Soulful Blooms Flower Farm – she will actually be doing flower bouquets and possibly a flower bar where you build your own bouquet – we’re pretty excited for that one. And then we have The Farm on Henderson Hill. They’ve been a floral farm for quite a few years, and they’re going to bring bouquets to the market. And then we have Grace Marie Bakery. She does assorted baked goods and dessert breads and Countryside Sweets, who offers cake pops and cakecicles.”

McKenzie says the market only accepts vendors within 50 miles of the Dover/New Philadelphia area so the seasonal produce available there is some of the freshest around.

“The products get to fully ripen in the fields, especially with the produce and the fruits, and they’re picked at the height of their flavor profile, which is something that’s difficult to have if something’ being shipped from California or Arizona or Florida or Texas.”

The Tuscarawas Valley Farmers Market returns to the fairgrounds during the same hours each Wednesday through October 9th except for the week of the fair. For the full schedule and other details, visit tvffm.org or check out the market’s Facebook page.
