Wisconsin man dies in 2-vehicle crash near Strasburg
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 17, 2024) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol has been investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash north of Strasburg that killed a passenger from Wisconsin and seriously injured that car’s driver.
The accident happened in Franklin Township at the intersection of state routes 21 and 212 just after 5 p.m. Saturday.
Troopers say an eastbound car on state Route 212 had been stopped at the intersection’s stop sign but then failed to yield and pulled out in front of an SUV traveling northbound on state Route 21.
There are no stop signs at that intersection for north-south traffic on state Route 21.
The SUV struck the car on the passenger side, killing 76-year-old Douglas Devan of Lake Mills, Wisconsin.
That car’s driver, 63-year-old Wen Zhao, also from Lake Mills, was taken to a Canton hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a 22-year-old Strasburg woman, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Troopers say alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
