Yearly author fair moves to Dover High School

| October 4, 2024

DOVER (WJER) (Oct. 4, 2024) – The Canal Town Book Festival returns on Saturday at a new location.

It’s happening from 10 until 3 inside the Dover High School gymnasium. Organizing Committee Chair Mallory Thompson says they moved the festivities indoors to allow for author-led panel discussions including one called ‘Whodunnit?’

“Featuring Linda Castilllo over Zoom. Also, Wendy Sand Eckel, who is a New Philadelphia native, and Michael Prelee, and they’ll be talking about how to craft a cunning and thrilling mystery. And then there will be one called ‘Plotting or Pantsing,’ and it’s all about how do you design your book. Do you plan it out step by step or do you just go with the flow and let the characters take you where you need to go? And that has the authors Patricia Miller and Deborah Edmisten. And then our last panel for the day is called ‘Reaching the Masses: Marketing Your Book.'”

Fifty authors representing a variety of literary genres are participating in the event that also features story times, food trucks, and a kids craft station.

“This is our fifth year. The first year, we had it at the [Dover] library, and we’ve moved forward since then and invited more and more authors each year. So this is our biggest festival yet.”

Thompson says the authors will have copies of their books for sale, and every $5 spent gets you an entry into the raffle drawing of your choice. For more information, visit canaltownbookfest.org.
