Suspect in road rage beating takes plea deal
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 28, 2024) – The Gnadenhutten man charged in a road rage attack from February is facing significantly less prison time after pleading no contest to a reduced charge.
Wyatt Shaw, 20, entered the plea to aggravated assault – a fourth degree felony – on Monday as part of a deal that cut the maximum amount of time he could spend behind bars from 8 years to 18 months.
Tuscarawas County Prosecutor Ryan Styer made the offer in consultation with the victim, who didn’t incur any out-of-pocket medical expenses but is awaiting the return of a $3,000 hearing aid that investigators recovered from Shaw’s truck after the attack.
Shaw and Landon Levengood of Sherrodsville are accused of following the 53-year-old home and beating him after what authorities describe as a series of escalating events involving the two vehicles.
Shaw is scheduled to return to court on December 17th to be punished for his role.
