Record travel expected for Thanksgiving starting today
PITTSBURGH (WTUZ) (Nov. 25, 2025) – Nearly 80 million Americans are expected to hit the road or take to the skies this Thanksgiving holiday, according to AAA. That marks an increase of 1.7 million travelers compared to last year.
With traffic expected to be heavy, Public and Community Relations Director Jim Garrity has a tip for drivers: leave at the right time to avoid delays.
For those traveling by car, Garrity recommends checking your vehicle’s fluids, battery, and tire pressure before heading out.
If you’re flying, the TSA says the busiest days will be Tuesday and Wednesday, and then the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Air travelers should pack smart, double-check their bags to avoid bringing prohibited items, arrive early, and don’t forget your proper ID.
