Kim Jurkovic Talks about Historic Floods in Tuscarawas County at Dover Library

/ May 19, 2025

The event

Local history librarian Kim Jurkovic will present a program titled “Rising Waters: A History of the Floods of Tuscarawas County” on Monday, May 19 at 6:30 PM in the community room at the Dover Public Library, located at 525 N. Walnut Street.

Tuscarawas County has been no stranger to floods over the years. In this program, Jurkovic presents on the floods that have hit Tuscarawas County, with an emphasis on the Great Flood of 1913. She will share some of the many images of the devastation this flood caused across Dover, Tuscarawas County, and Ohio. The 1913 Flood had many effects on the area, including spelling the end of the Ohio Erie Canal and beginning the process to create the flood control system of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District.

Kim Jurkovic currently serves as the curator at the Tuscarawas County Historical Society and as the Local History Librarian at the Dover Public Library. She recently received the Hero of History Award from the Tuscarawas County Heritage Home Association for her dedication to preserving and sharing our community’s rich history.
