Lincoln’s White House the Focus of February Civil War Round Table
The event
In celebration of President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table will meet on Thursday, February 12 at 6:30 PM in the Community Room of the Dover Public Library, located at 525 N. Walnut Street in Dover. The featured presenter will be living historian Chris Hart, who will present: “Mr. Lincoln’s White House.”
It is the turn of century, 1900 to be exact, and President William McKinley has invited the late President Lincoln’s secretary, George Nicolay to the White House for a visit. Join George as he recalls life at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave during the Lincoln years, remembering everything from Inauguration Day to Mrs. Lincoln’s spending to the tragedy of Willie’s & Abraham’s death and everything in between. It is a rare chance for Nicolay to be very candid and he does exactly that.
As a living historian, Chris Hart brings to life numerous historical and literary characters ranging from Cy Young to Icabod Crane to various Civil War personalities. Hart serves as adjunct
faculty at 3 universities in Ohio, having retired from 4 others. In addition, Chris has served as program development manager at Historic Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio and is currently on the board of directors of the local Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADAMH) Board. In addition, Chris has had the pleasure of performing at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee and for the National Park Service in Pennsylvania. He has also been honored to perform Civil War portrayals in Gettysburg. Chris has also shared his stories internationally and is a professional voice-over actor. The Tuscarawas County Historical Society awarded Mr. Hart the Zeisberger Heckewelder Medal for outstanding contributions to local history. He was also most honored to receive the University of Findlay College of Pharmacy Lifetime Commitment and Dedication Award. Chris is also an ordained minister. He has retired as pastor at the Birds Run Community Church interim pastor at Gospel Hill ministries in Warsaw, Ohio, but continues to substitute where needed.
The mission of the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table is to educate the community about the American Civil War, to preserve Civil War heritage and to remember those who struggled for their cause. For more information, please call the Dover Public Library at 330-343-6123.
