3 hunters sentenced after skipping mandatory deer game-check procedures
Carrollton, OH – Authorities with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife are using a recent case to remind hunters what can happen if they skip required game‑check procedures.
During the 2025–26 deer season, wildlife officers in Carroll and Tuscarawas counties discovered that three individuals had harvested deer without completing the mandatory game‑check process—something investigators say they had also failed to do in previous seasons.
All three were charged and later convicted in Carroll County Municipal Court. The group was ordered to pay more than $2,600 in fines and restitution, serve 20 days in jail, and surrender their hunting licenses for six years.
Officials say the case serves as a clear example of the penalties for violating Ohio’s deer‑season rules.
