Leadership changes continue at New Phila with School Board, treasurer departures

| March 9, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The highest vote-getter in November’s New Philadelphia School Board race is resigning after less than two months in office.

The agenda for Monday’s New Philadelphia School Board meeting includes the resignation of Andrew Zimmerman, effective February 20th. He was elected to a four-year term in November as four candidates competed for two open positions on the Board. Zimmerman collected more than 3,300 votes, more than twice as many as either of the two candidates who were not elected.

The New Philadelphia School Board is also scheduled to appoint Zimmerman’s replacement. That is Perry Petrullo. According to Ohio Revised Code, Petrullo would finish out the year and would have to run in a special election this year to maintain the seat.

Also on Monday’s agenda, the School Board is scheduled to vote on the retirement of Treasurer Julie Erwin. It would be effective at the end of the calendar year. Erwin was first hired as the district’s treasurer in 2015.

The district is already in the process of replacing its superintendent. Amy Wentworth announced her resignation in January. She will take over as Indian Valley’s superintendent later this year.

The School Board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Front Street Administrative Building.
