OVI investigation of Dover officer ‘nearing its conclusion’
DOVER – The mayor says the investigation into a police officer’s alleged misconduct is nearly complete more than a month after the potential disciplinary violation.
The city announced in a Feb. 11 press release that a city police officer had been removed from duty and placed on leave after an unspecified incident. Mayor Shane Gunnoe says city officials are not commenting on the details, but he believes the investigation is “nearing its conclusion.”
Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein will serve as special prosecutor should criminal charges be filed, according to an agreement with the city.
The city has not named the officer involved, but the contract with Klein says he will review “the OVI and related offenses investigation of Dover City Police Officer Ryan Porter.”
Porter has been with the Dover Police Department for around 15 years. He was hailed as a hero in 2024 when he performed CPR and saved the life of a West Third Street resident who had stopped breathing and did not have a pulse.
