JFS offering clothing assistance, temporarily waiving childcare co-pays
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 6, 2022) – Families experiencing financial hardship will be getting some extra help this summer.
Ohio JFS is temporarily waiving co-pays for subsidized child care, and families receiving food assistance can apply through its local office to receive $200 for back-to-school clothes for each eligible child in their household. Tuscarawas County JFS Director David Haverfield says they received some additional funds to help families recover from the pandemic and decided to use them to give cash-strapped parents a break at the end of the summer.
“We actually modeled this program after one that is being run in Stark County with the same pot of money that the state has put their blessing on. So we thought it was a good way to expend some of that money rather than send it back to Columbus and be able to help out some families and local businesses, as well.”
Clothing assistance applications are due June 30th and can be completed in person at the county JFS office in New Philadelphia and online at tcjfs.com. Haverfield says co-pay waivers are automatic for those currently receiving childcare assistance.
“So anybody that is on subsidized childcare, they will see that change right away and certainly if anybody thinks they are eligible, they should come and apply for childcare.”
The waiver program began May 8th. It will continue until the $50-million state JFS officials set aside to fund it runs out.
