Artober returns to celebrate culture and creativity

| October 11, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 11, 2023) – It’s a busy time for the Tuscarawas Arts Partnership.

Executive Director Wilma Mullet stopped by the station recently with Social Media Coordinator Khloe Ayres to promote the month-long celebration known as Artober.

“Artober is our way of taking National Arts and Humanities Month, and we’re localizing it to celebrate all things arts, culture, and creativity here in Tuscarawas County. It’s a really great month to really take some time to celebrate the arts in our area, whether it’s going to a performance, supporting local artists, or visiting historical sites.”

Art-related happenings taking place this month include Trumpet in the Land’s production of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”, the Little Theatre’s tribute to the Peanuts gang called “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown”, and Eat Your Art Out – TAP’s yearly dine-to-donate fundraiser – on October 25th. Seven restaurants are participating – including the Daily Grind, Magic Mugs, the New Philadelphia Hog Heaven, and Missions Cafe – and will donate a percentage of their proceeds to the organization that day.

“So it’s going to support our Tuscarawas Arts Support Grant, which we have 8 applications this year. That’s the most that we’ve ever had. And we also do Arts Signing Day, which is something that we do year after year in the spring for our high school seniors who are graduating and pursuing a career or a degree in arts, culture, and creativity.”

There’s also a Halloween-themed installment of Art on the Alley this coming Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm with arts with trick-or-treating and a costume contest. Details are on Tuscarawas Arts Partnership’s Facebook page where the organization will feature different arts-related events and activities each Wednesday in October.
