Assailant in deadly fight indicted for multiple violent crimes

| January 2, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Jan. 2, 2023) – The Dover man who spent six months in the Tuscarawas County Jail for the fight that killed a former friend is now facing felony charges for another violent incident in his hometown.

A grand jury indictment handed down last week accuses 48-year-old John L. Tucker of rape, gross sexual imposition, abduction, strangulation, assault, and disrupting public services. Dover Police investigated the alleged crimes, which reportedly involved a single victim and occurred between November 15th and 16th of last year.

Tucker was acquitted of involuntary manslaughter but found guilty of misdemeanor assault following his trial for the October 2018 fight outside of his home that resulted in the death of 38-year-old Nicholas Winters. He posted bond after his preliminary hearing for the case from November and is scheduled to appear in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court on January 10th to enter a formal plea to the charges.
