UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (August 2, 2023) – Huge gas stations could soon be popping up along a couple of Tuscarawas County’s busiest roadways.

Uhrichsville Mayor Mark Haney says the company that owns the BellStores chain of service centers is planning to replace its location on West McCauley Drive with one that will have gas and diesel islands, a car wash, and 5,500 square feet of retail space.

“They want to start clearing brush here coming up real quick, and they want to break ground by the end of the year with it being open in 2024.”

The company – Massillon-based Campbell Oil – bought the former 922 Drive-thru and Michael’s car dealership for the expansion and recently acquired another property north of Strasburg at the junction of Routes 21 and 250 for another proposed service center. Village Solicitor Terry Seeberger shared details during a recent council meeting.

“They are projecting a $4-million project cost. They are projecting a total of 18 employees and a payroll of about $550,000.”

The developers are seeking admission to the Strasburg-Franklin Township Joint Economic Development District to bring utility access to the site. There will be a public hearing on the request at village hall before the August 15th council meeting.
