Body found in Tuscarawas River identified
NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office has identified the body found in the Tuscarawas River Monday afternoon as 29-year-old Jacob Holbrook.
The coroner’s report on the cause of death is still pending. The report lists Holbrook as homeless and of the New Philadelphia area.
Sheriff’s Detective Capt. Adam Fisher says Holbrook was last seen at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. He says when the body was removed from the water around 4 p.m. Monday, there was evidence which would suggest Holbrook had been deceased for at least 12 hours.
New Philadelphia rescue workers brought the body to shore near the boat dock at the Waterworks Ball Fields after state officials working in a boat on the river saw it surface and float down the river near the South Broadway Bridge.
