Buckeye Career Center growing to meet workforce demand
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 9, 2024) – Buckeye Career Center officials are welcoming the ongoing expansions and additional educational opportunities happening at the school.
The center offers more than 30 career-technical education programs for high school students.
Director of Curriculum Frank Polen says those include two news ones this year: Dental Assisting and Fire & EMS.
“Every time you have a new company come in, or whatever it may be, that brings people,” Polen said. “That also means jobs that need to be filled in healthcare, and safety, and all these different things.”
Superintendent Bob Alsept says the school has also broken ground on its 11,000-square-foot medical academy addition, which should have students moving in next year at this time.
“Our medical programs are so important. That’s one of the highest-need occupations – not just in our area, but across the state and nation – and our facilities just didn’t match what we were trying to do,” said Alsept.
BCC received a more than $2.8 million career tech expansion grant from the state for the $6-million addition.
