Case against man accused of killing 14-month-old son heads to grand jury

| September 8, 2022

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 8, 2022) – The fate of the 19-year-old accused of killing his infant son by leaving him in a hot car for hours is now in the hands of grand jurors.

Landon Parrott is charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, and endangering children in a criminal complaint filed by the New Philadelphia Police Department. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing on the charges when he appeared in the Municipal Court this morning.

Judge Nanette Von Allman continued Parrott’s $250,000 bond and bound the case over to Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court for further proceedings.

Investigators say Parrott intentionally left his 14-month-old son in a vehicle parked in the driveway of a New Philadelphia home for around five hours last Thursday while the child’s mother was at work. A grand jury will now review the case and decide whether to issue formal charges.
