Claymont health clinic project goes back to drawing board
UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (Dec. 19, 2024) – The plan for a medical clinic at Claymont High School is getting scaled back.
During last week’s school board meeting, Superintendent Brian Rentsch announced that the proposed clinic was going from more than 2,500 square-feet to around 1,900 with three exam rooms instead of four.
“Basically, it needs to be smaller to fit into the budget of what we have to spend, and if it doesn’t I’ve just been very adamant the fact is we’re not spending any Claymont dollars, so they’ve gone back to the drawing board.”
Aultman-Orville organization operates several school-based health clinics in the area already and will also run the one at Claymont, which will now be a free-standing building not attached to the school, as originally proposed.
“I have also been adamant that they need to be able to build up if that time comes that the board looks at expanding at the high school. That’s still in the works and hopefully by March, we’ll still have a groundbreaking to start that project.”
The school district received almost $1.9 million dollars from the Governor’s Appalachian Children’s Health Initiative to pay for the project.
