Claymont sprinter to compete at national indoor meet in Boston

| March 1, 2024

Claymont Track and Field senior Alec Terakedis takes first-place in the 55-meter dash at the Marietta College High School Icebreaker indoor track meet in January.

UHRICHSVILLE – Claymont’s record-setting sprinter Alec Terakedis will travel to Boston for the New Balance Nationals. This is a nationally qualified indoor track meet which will be hosted at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center March 7-9. Upon qualifying for the finals, he will have the opportunity to run at The TRACK at New Balance on March 10.

In his first race of this season’s indoor track schedule, Terakedis hit the automatic qualifying time at 6.44 seconds in the 55-meter dash at Marietta College’s High School Ice Breaker indoor meet on Jan. 14. He went on to run at Muskingum University’s High School Last Chance Invite on Feb. 17, where he broke the school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94 seconds. He will race in the 60-meter dash at the New Balance Nationals and hopes to achieve an even faster time. If Terakedis qualifies to run at the finals meet, he will finish in the top 8 in the country.

Terakedis would like to thank his coaches for all their help and support over the years to get him to this point in his career.

“Without the help of my coaches and teammates over the last four years, I would not have been able to accomplish this goal of running in this meet. I would also like to thank the Claymont community as they have supported me in this journey. The Uhrichsville Moose Lodge, The Uhrichsville Eagles, Big Time Sports, the Claymont Athletic Booster Club, and The Claymont Track Booster Club are all very much appreciated for their support and monetary donations to help me and Coach Peterson get to Boston,” stated Terakedis.
