Coming soon to Dover: street paving, athletic court repairs, building demo

| April 18, 2024

The former Midway Lumber building on South Tuscarawas Avenue near the fairgrounds. A demolition contractor will begin tearing that down soon, with asbestos remediation starting Monday.

DOVER (WJER) (April 18, 2024) – The city’s warm-weather construction projects are set to begin soon, including $1.1 million in street paving.

Service Director Dave Douglas says that’s most the city has spent on paving in a year. Most of the work will be in the north and northwest part of the city, including most of Dover Avenue and a long stretch of Progress Street.

A couple of other projects are set to start soon. That includes repairing and resurfacing the park basketball courts. That should take about a month and start in the next couple of weeks.

Douglas says the city will repair the tennis courts later in the summer, possibly in July.

Meanwhile, the city does not have to pay for the demolition of the former Midway Lumber building on South Tuscarawas Avenue near the fairgrounds. A demolition contractor will begin tearing that down soon, with asbestos remediation starting Monday.

The work is funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Development. City officials says two buildings – that one near the fairgrounds and a house near Shenanigans – are scheduled for demolition this year through the state’s building demolition and site revitalization program.
