Community asked to design new homeless shelter logo
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Feb. 21, 2024) – Area artists are getting a chance to leave their mark on the new and improved homeless shelter that will be going up downtown.
The Tuscarawas County Friends of the Homeless are hosting a logo contest for the facility that will be called ‘Jack’s House of Hope’ in honor of founder Jack Ream. Campaign Chairman Matt Ritzert says artists of all ages can enter a hand-drawn or computer-generated logo reflecting the organization’s mission for the chance to win $400.
“And as we move forward with Jack’s House of Hope, it’s a perfect opportunity for us to develop a new logo that expresses the fact that this is an organization that offers hope, changes lives, and is more than just a shelter for the unhoused.”
The group is finalizing plans to build a larger shelter behind the existing one at 211 East High Avenue that opened almost two decades ago.
“Jack Ream had a spiritual vision back in 2003 and felt he was called by God to create a homeless shelter in Tuscarawas County. So he was the driving force behind the creation of the Friends of the Homeless that eventually opened the shelter in 2005.”
Entries are due at the shelter by April 1st and must be submitted on standard-sized printer paper with the artist’s name and contact information listed on the back. The winner will be announced during a ceremony later in the spring where officials will also share more information about the construction project.
