| October 6, 2025

Max Arnett is pictured with Kent Police Chief Nicholas Shearer after he was sworn in as a Kent Police Officer in February 2024 (Facebook: Kent Police Department).

DOVER – A former police officer and 2018 Dover High School graduate died in August as a result of combat activity in Ukraine while serving as an international volunteer member of the Ukrainian Armed Forced.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe says he was a dedicated officer who was well-liked by his coworkers.

Geib Funeral Center shared an obituary. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/maximilian-arnett-obituary?id=59664104

Arnett graduated from Dover High School in 2018 and was in the Marching Tornado drumline and steel drum band.

He worked as a Reserve officer in New Philadelphia before working as a full-time officer for Sugarcreek, Dover and Kent before going overseas earlier this year.

Arnett was a staunch supporter of Ukraine and its right to exist as a sovereign nation. His family worried for his safety but respected his courage, commitment and principled stand for freedom and democracy. He volunteered with the Ukrainian Armed Forces – 3rd Assault Brigade and earned the designation of squad leader.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

The family asks for memorial donations to foundations that support Ukraine, its people and soldiers – United 24 and Safe Passage 4 Ukraine.

He is survived by his father Matt, Dover’s HR director and former police officer, and mother, Juli. Gunnoe said the family would like privacy at this time.
