Council committee to consider request for new police cruiser cam system

| August 17, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 17, 2023) – Council’s Finance Committee will review a request by police to buy a new camera system for their nine cruisers.

Captain Paul Rossi says the current cameras were purchased several years ago and have been failing one by one in the past year or so.

He wants a new system that would cost about $65,000 and wirelessly upload to cloud-based storage, unlike the current camera system that’s put a strain on the city’s server with massive amounts of data.

He says the new one would also work seamlessly with body cameras that could be purchased later on with grant funding available through the state. The department would need 30 of those costing about $40,000.
