Dehumidifier blamed for house fire in Dover Township

| September 12, 2025

DOVER TWP.  (WJER) (Sept. 12, 2025) – Dover firefighters are crediting a neighbor for reporting a house fire to 9-1-1 in the 1600 block of Pleasant Hill Road Northwest Thursday.

This happened at about 3:45 p.m.  There were no injuries.

Fire Captain Mike Mossor says the woman who lives there wasn’t home at the time and will have to stay elsewhere for now.

He says firefighters arrived to the house full of smoke. They eventually found flames in the basement. It took about 15 minutes to extinguish, leaving smoke damage throughout the house and heavy fire and water damage to the basement.

Mossor says they determined the fire started with a malfunctioning dehumidifier in the basement.

New Philadelphia, Bolivar, Strasburg, York Township, and Dundee firefighters assisted at the scene Thursday.
