DENNISON (WJER) (Feb. 22, 2022) – Village officials are looking for ways to make the town’s headquarters more accessible to visitors with mobility limitations.

Mayor Greg DiDonato was telling council last week he has two companies lined up to tour the building and suggest improvements, which he will share with members at a future meeting.

“I guess where we’re at is we need to figure out what would be the plan, what could we do and what would it cost.”

He says an elevator is probably out of the question because of the expense, although they may be able to install a ramp.

“The odds are we’d have to put the ramp in on the side of the building, which would make sense because of the double doors. That way we could run it long-ways.”

DiDonato would like to have a plan in place by the end of the year so the village can apply for foundation grants to help fund the project in 2023. Village hall is already equipped with a buzzer system visitors can use to have an employee meet them at the entrance. Officials can also make arrangements to hold council meetings in the fire station if someone unable to climb the stairs would like to attend.
