Dog bites boy at least 55 times during attack at Dundee-area home

| February 18, 2022

WAYNE TWP (WJER) (Feb. 18, 2022) – A four-year-old is continuing to recover from a dog attack in his grandparents’ Dundee area home.

Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Deputy Alex Shaffer says the grandmother had been watching the child in the sunroom late Wednesday afternoon when the couple’s dog – an 18-month-old Cane Corso Pit Bull mix weighing just over a hundred pounds – pinned him down and started biting him.

“Grandma tried to get the dog off without any success until grandpa got in the residence as well. Once they got [him and] the dog separated, they called 911 immediately.”

Medics ended up transporting the injured child to Akron Children’s Hospital by ambulance since the helicopter they initially requested couldn’t take off because of the wind.

“His injuries are 55 to 65 dog bites. The doctors are telling us that it’s all superficial, nothing deep. The only reason they admitted him was to make sure there was no infection.”

The child remained hospitalized Thursday evening but was expected to be released by Saturday if not sooner. The couple surrendered the dog that attacked him to the county dog warden.
