Dover adds new police cruisers, swears in officer

| July 7, 2026

DOVER – The city has two new police cruisers almost ready to hit the streets.

City Safety Director Bob Everett says a third new vehicle is already in service, but the other two still need to be outfitted with lights, radios and other equipment. One will be converted into a new K-9 vehicle. Everett says the cars should be ready for duty in the coming weeks.

He says a fully fitted police cruiser costs around $55,000, but the city carefully budgets to make sure fleet vehicles are continuously updated and gets a good deal through state bidding. That avoids high-mileage vehicles that “nickel and dime the city to death” with frequent repairs.

Everett says the police department also recently hired a new officer. The mayor swore in Anthony Nicholson on Monday. He previously worked in Stark County with the Perry Township Police Department.

Patrolman Anthony Nicholson was sworn in as the newest Dover Police Officer on Monday morning by Mayor Shane Gunnoe. (City of Dover Facebook)
