Dover boys soccer wraps up week with win over New Philadelphia

| October 17, 2022

Dover defeated New Philadelphia 3-2 Saturday in the regular season finale for the two teams.

Dover Coach Austin Wade provided this summary of his team’s results for the past week:

The boys fought to a 1-3 loss against Louisville last Tuesday. Keeping it 1-1 for most of the second half, the team conceded two late goals. Scoring for Dover was Arden Klaiber, assisted by Caden Yackey.

The boys bounced back with a 10-0 win over Minerva later on Thursday. Scoring for the Tornadoes were Joshua Smith (2), Joshua Frank (2), A.J. Stingel (2), Evan Burrier, Chris Aguirre, Yassine Mohamed, and Bryer Resh. Adding assists were Joshua Smith, Joshua Frank, Evan Burrier, Aidan Hopson, Yassine Mohamed, and Arden Klaiber.

They finished the regular season with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over New Philadelphia on Saturday Night. After going up early from a goal by Joshua Smith, the Quakers tallied two goals before half. However, after a few halftime adjustments, the boys re-took control after Carver Ulrich tied the game off of a header, and Gabe McDade-Povick scored the game-winner. I’m extremely proud of the way in which the boys responded to the adversity.  Adding assists were Connor Hooper, Josh Frank, and Carver Ulrich.

The team will host Massillon Perry in the first round of the Division I playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at Crater Stadium.
