Dover crews stay busy with three water line breaks
DOVER (WJER) (August 2, 2024) – The city’s service department had their hands full this week with three water line breaks, the first causing a 25- to 30-foot plume of water to shoot into the air on Ohio Avenue near Tremont Street last Saturday.
Service Director Dave Douglas praised the workers who repaired the leaks on Ohio Avenue then on Cross Street later in the week.
“They did an incredible job. I cannot brag about them enough,” he said. “They worked for many, many hours to get these breaks fixed.”
The one on Tremont impacted only a handful of customers, but it was dramatic with a huge plume of water.
There were two water breaks along the same line on Cross Street between East 12th and 17th streets later in the week that resulted in customers without water and boil alerts that have since expired.
Douglas says many factors could have played into the first break, and then likely the pressure from the first repair caused the second break. He says that’s an old line, and the city will start looking in earnest at how they can upgrade it.
The city canceled the final boil advisory Friday morning.
