Dover expecting another million dollars in grants for Schaeffler work

| July 17, 2024

Dover Mayor Shane Gunnoe says decades-old storm water management designs have water flowing down onto this field. That is "obviously going to be a problem if you're going to put a facility there" like the one Schaeffler plans to build.

DOVER (WJER) (July 17, 2024) – The city is set to spend about $1.5 million on storm water management to accommodate the Schaeffler manufacturing facility coming to the city’s northern border.

City Council Monday approved applications for $1 million in state grants to cover two-thirds of the cost. Mayor Shane Gunnoe says tax revenue through a TIF agreement and funding already set aside by Council will cover the rest of the cost.

Gunnoe says it will be months before any work is done. He says engineering and bidding alone will take several months.

The city has outlined around $3 million dollars in storm water, infrastructure and utility work needed to make the 67-acre site suitable for development. Gunnoe says most of those will be covered by grants, which total $2.34 million.

Schaeffler plans to build a 130,000-square-foot facility to manufacture electric vehicle components. It will be between Wooster Avenue and I-77 along Dover’s northern border with Parral and is part of the company’s $230 million expansion in Ohio.
