Dover firefighters make quick work of porch fire
DOVER (WJER) (February 16, 2024) – Firefighters put out a small fire at a duplex in the 400 block of East 4th Street around 9:45 Friday morning.
Captain Brooks Ross says no one was hurt and the damage was limited to the exterior wall of an enclosed back porch. The fire started outside and worked its way inside the wall.
“We were able to get in there and open up that wall, expose the fire, and put it out. From the time we got dispatched to the time we had the fire under control was about eight minutes.”
He says investigators don’t yet know what ignited the fire. There was a box of car parts nearby, possibly with oil and rags around. Ross didn’t rule out somebody walking by and discarding a cigarette.
Ross says there was some smoke in the building but no smoke damage. Everyone was out by the time firefighters arrived.
