NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 30, 2024) – A child sex abuse case out of Dover that went to trial has come to a close.

Jacinto Herrera-Raymundo is facing a mandatory 25 years to life in prison after being found guilty of rape and gross sexual imposition. Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court jurors deliberated for about four hours on Friday before returning the verdict against the 34-year-old, who took the stand that morning.

Raymundo’s public defender tried to discredit the child, who was 11 when the abuse began.

“She was not traumatized. She was not violated. She did not show the signs of violation when she sat in the room and was interviewed, and then, oh, we had to watch it again for a sniffle.”

Assistant County Prosecutor Kristine Beard called the claim ‘offensive.’

“I love it when the defense argues that this is just a train that everybody just jumped on, just out of the blue. Do you know who the conductor is? The defendant. I wouldn’t be on this train, he wouldn’t be on this train, the witnesses wouldn’t be on this train if on that one evening he hadn’t been caught in that bedroom doing something that he shouldn’t.”

Raymundo remains in the Tuscarawas County Jail and is scheduled to return to court next Monday to receive his punishment.
