Dover, New Phila among districts returning to class Wednesday

| August 21, 2024

TUSCARAWAS COUNTY (WJER) (Aug. 21, 2024) – Today is back to school day for many of the students in the area.

New Philadelphia Superintendent Amy Wentworth says they have about 50 staff members new to the district to welcome back the kids there today.
“It will be exciting to see the impact that they have and to just have everybody back together again. Summer can be a lonely place without our littles here,” said Wentworth.

Dover Superintendent Karie Mccrate says some changes there include lights replaced at the middle school gym – thanks to a grant – and some technological upgrades including Wi-Fi at the elementaries.
“Our school, like all schools, they’re alive when the kids get there and we are thrilled to have our students coming back to school,” McCrate said.

At Tuscarawas Central Catholic, Junior-Senior High Principal Jenn Calvo says they’re starting a new drama club this year.
“We’re excited to get that rolling. It’s going to happen in the mornings before school starts a couple days a week. Then in the spring our hope it to put on a spring musical,” Calvo said.

Garaway Superintendent Jim Millet says they’re kicking off the new year today with the theme ‘Carpe Annum’, which is Latin for ‘Seize the Year.’
“We believe those themes are really important because they help us align our actions with our values, achieve our goals, and point us to success,” Millet said.

Claymont, meanwhile, returns to the classroom Thursday.
