Dover opens new pickleball courts

| April 14, 2026

Mayor Shane Gunnoe and Dover Community Parks Foundation board member Debbie Colburn cut the ribbon to open the new pickleball courts at Dover City Park. They are joined by city officials, Council and other board members.

DOVER – Four new pickleball courts are open to the public after a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday at Dover City Park.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe thanked donors and the Reeves Foundation as those $90,000 in donations covered more than half of the roughly $130,000. Gunnoe says that is $80,000 below the estimate. The city also added fencing and other features that bumped the cost to closer to $200,000.

Dover Community Parks Foundation Board member Bev Smith played the first with Jeff Funk and Jeff and Joan Shook.

Smith says the parks foundation hopes to raise enough money to build four more courts at the site.

The Dover Community Parks Foundation’s next fundraiser is Saturday. It’s a card party from noon to 4 p.m. at St. John’s Fourth and Faith, with various card games, food, a 50/50 raffle and other prizes. Tickets are 10 dollars. To attend contact Bev Smith through the Dover Community Parks Foundation Facebook page or at 330-343-2231.

Meanwhile, the Dover Exchange is building a pavilion next to the pickleball courts. Gunnoe says upgrades to the nearby bocce courts are also in the works.
