Driver caught after fleeing from crash that kills passenger
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 24, 2025) – New Philadelphia police say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning where the driver fled on foot and left behind a dead passenger in the car.
Police say they were able to locate the driver and take him into custody a short distance from the crash site near South Broadway and Hilan Avenue Southwest just after 2 a.m.
Police were not immediately releasing the name of the driver or the adult male passenger killed in the crash, which remains under investigation.
