Driver helped from car during flash flooding in New Philadelphia
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 14, 2023) – Saturday’s storms with the tornado warning had firefighters responding to numerous calls about power lines down, fallen trees and even a water rescue in downtown New Philadelphia.
Fire Captain Matthew Graham says they were sent to help a driver whose car became stuck in the high water at 3rd St. Northwest and Esther Court just before 5 p.m. Saturday from the flash flooding.
The driver stuck in the water Saturday was not injured.
Graham says a fire lieutenant was able to get the driver out of the vehicle and safely over to the sidewalk. They later had a tow truck come remove the car.
