NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Mar. 28, 2022) – The State Highway Patrol says an SUV rear-ended an Ohio Department of Transportation salt truck on I-77 in Dover Township, resulting in minor injuries to the drivers and significant damage to both vehicles.

This occurred at about 4:14 a.m. Sunday in the southbound lanes near Schneiders Crossing Road.

New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Bill Bower says the SUV driver, 21-year-old Cesar Ramos of New Philadelphia, was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired.

There could possibly be some other charges coming down the line other than OVI and following within an assured clear distance. There could be more charges possibly coming since there’s injury involved in this,” said Bower.

ODOT says the SUV was traveling at 70 miles per hour and that this is the 46th time one of its trucks has been struck this year.
