ELECTION INFO: Voting locations to open Tuesday

| November 4, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 4, 2024) – Tuscarawas County’s elections director is letting us know what to expect after the polls close Tuesday night.

Gail Garbrandt says results reporting will begin shortly after 7:30 with the early in-person and absentee total, continuing every half hour or so until the preliminary count is complete.

“We have a MARCS radio that connects directly with the Secretary of State, and Secretary LaRose will come on at 7:30 pm and say, ‘You may begin tabulation,’ and that’s when we will start to count.”

In addition to the presidential contest, the ballot also includes races for Congress, the U.S. Senate, state rep, and county commissioner. Locally, any close races won’t be decided until November 18th when the elections board meets to add any valid provisional (and absentee) votes to the final tally.

“Any ballots that are postmarked the day before the election that we receive by Saturday are countable, so they would also be counting those ballots at that meeting, and then that would be our official results.”

If early voting is any indication, Garbrandt expects a higher turnout than the last presidential election four years ago. Listen to WJER on election night for updates and reactions.
