Empower Tusc encouraging participation in nationwide awareness week
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 10, 2022) – Empower Tusc’s coordinator is letting us know how to get involved in the yearly awareness campaign known as National Prevention Week.
Jodi Salvo says it’s as simple as sharing one of their Facebook posts.
“They will be all prevention messages around decision making, coping skills, stigma reduction efforts, and even for every person, as easy as it would be as just to share a Facebook post, it’s an opportunity to provide education and reduce stigma.”
She says it’s also a good time to talk with young people, whether it’s with your own children or others who look to you for guidance.
“It’s just an opportunity for people to have conversations around addiction and mental health in a positive light – that treatment is effective, recovery happens and prevention works – so those would be great things that everybody could do.”
National Prevention Week runs through Saturday and is facilitated by the national Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
