The event

Summer is right around the corner and that means so is summer reading.  The Dover Public Library will kick off summer reading on Saturday June 1 for kids in preschool to 6th grade.  The theme this summer is Adventure Begins at your library.  The adventure will begin in the children’s department with kids entering a candy factory.  Each child will receive a small bag to pick some yummy treats (sugar free candies available) after they sign up for summer reading.  The kids will also receive a coupon for a free ticket to the Ohio State Fair, coupon for a discount to staying at State Park and a cool reading tracker bookmark. Sign up will be open on Saturday June 1 starting at 10am.

The month of June will continue with adventures.  Storytimes will have fun themes on Wednesdays at 10:30 am.  “We will have an animal tracks storytime on June 5 at the Dover Pond area,” said Jen Gardner Children’s Department Manager.  Other storytimes will include Lots of Bubbles June 12 and Farrah Raines storytime and movement Saturday June 15. A visit from the State Highway Patrol for a story will be on Wednesday June 19. The month will conclude with a progressive storytime on Wednesday June 29 where kids will travel around the library for stories and different activities.

The library will also offer other programs for children in June.  Saturday June 8 at 11 am will be wind chime making in the children’s room.  Auntie E will bring some of her animal friends to meet library friends on Saturday June 22 at 1pm.  The month will wrap up with the 4th annual Dino Dig on Saturday June 29th at 11 am.  Kids will be able to dig for fossils and miniature dinosaurs, explore some dinosaur territory and much more.

Kids are encouraged to fill out as many adventure map book trackers as they want all summer.  When returning the first map tracker kids will receive an adventure book and cinch sack.  They will also be put in a drawing for over 20 prizes including an instant digital camera and accessories and a microscope.  Each additional tracker they turn in will get more chances to win prizes at the end of July.
